Tint is relatively cheap. I really don’t understand why people do this.

Really. I had 5 windows professionally   done with a lifetime warranty for like $150 back in y2k. Even if you double the cost, it's worth it to never have to worry about it going to shit in the future.

Mine was 4-something for all the windows plus my tail lights

Although I’d rather have smooth tint for obvious reasons , the pattern is so regular (while still slightly organic) that it doesn’t bother me as much as it could .

Still a bargain, all considered.

My mustang has had this since before I got it.  I assumed it was professionally done, but just old.

I just removed some terrible purple tint from one of the windows on t he Rabbit. It felt so freaking good to peel that junk off. I forgot to take a “before” pick but it’s the smoker window which is out in the oic and you can kind of see it

That’s your privilege talking.  $50 for 5 windows is better than $400+.  I don’t live in the south, so $0 was even better.

If you can’t afford $200 for a decent professional job, your car probably isn’t worth even the $50 to do it yourself. I mean, cheap tint is almost worse than no tint when you get down to really low-cost stuff that’ll discolor quickly or bubble. Decent film is relatively expensive and comes with a warranty that is well worth the extra costs involved.

I had tint installed on a car that lived outdoors in a nasty environment (really hot, really cold, cycled daily, and it destroys car interiors) for 15 years with no bubbling or fading ... It’s probably still fine on any remaining windows at the junkyard after the car was totaled.

Discolored or bubbled would still cut down on sun and cabin heat, which is the purpose of it.

But how much does this affect visibility? I’m pretty sure the cheap dyed film does no more than shade the interior a bit, while still letting through UV that heats/damages  the interior.

Ugh. My Jeep has that shit too. It’s applied “properly” (let’s be real, proper application is to remove from packaging and discard the garbage product ) but it’s old and distorts vison. Plus the PO also had a dog so it’s scratched to all hell. But the 90's-tas cticness sorta matches the Jeep, so I’m going to leave it until I eventually replace all the glass with the factory limo tinted glass from a Limited.

I dunno, never driven a car with tint that wasn’t factory, and don’t really remember riding in anything in that bad of shape.  I don’t think it would be too bad, since you’re inside looking out, but even if it is, you could re-do it 5 or 10 times for the price to have it professionally done.  You’re bound to get it right with that many tries.
